Are you a landowner?
Aggregate sources are critical to our operation. We own several of our sources and many are leased.
We are committed to the landowners we work with and spend time understanding their needs. There can be a lot of questions when thinking about monetizing the aggregate on a property. We can go over these questions together and do a walk-through of an active source. This gives us the opportunity to demonstrate what the mining process looks like. We can discuss how aggregate mining can coexist with other land uses as well as the desired end land use. These are important factors to consider as aggregate extraction is only a temporary use of land. |
Aggregate source life cycle.
Exploration
First, underground utility locations are marked by a qualified third party.
Test holes are then dug to look for aggregate on the land. If aggregate is found, assessments are made about the size and type of the deposit. |
Planning
The pit plan will cover several factors including the type of aggregate to be made, how to efficiently mine the aggregate and whether access roads need to be constructed.
The pit plan will also take into consideration coexisting and end land uses. |
Permitting
An application for a pit development permit is submitted to the governing rural municipality.
The turnaround time for a pit development permit can vary depending on several factors. Additional assessments may be required before a pit development permit can be issued. |
Mining
The mining process starts with methodical excavation of overburden. Once overburden is removed, the aggregate is accessible for extraction.
Aggregate is processed through the crushing spread and stacked into stockpiles. The aggregate is then hauled off the land to help build a project. |
Reclamation
Reclamation activities are carried out in a timely and efficient manner. They are specific to the end land use which may range from agricultural to subdivision development.
The goal of reclamation is to make the land look as though an aggregate pit was never there. |
